Refusal to enforce eviction moratorium will hurt Columbus Region

Business First Columbus has published a story featuring our members at IMPACT Community Action and Homeport, as well as our friends at the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio and the Community Shelter Board, in a piece about the negative consequences of a single judge’s decision to refuse enforcement of the eviction moratorium which the CDC recently extended.

Among other challenges, our Executive Director noted, is that when someone is not housed, it has a ripple effect across the entire sector:

If someone doesn’t have housing, it is much harder to get them other resources…. The virus is making it harder to keep up pace with the need. We have to continue to support each other and work together to get through this.”

As Carlie Boos, who leads AHACO noted, there are 213,000 people in Ohio who couldn’t pay their rent in July, more than there were last year and more than during all of the Great Recession.
